Learn about Speak OUT!
You can help preserve LGBTQ+ history for the next generation through our new campaign Speak OUT!
Almost 70 years ago, in 1952, our founders had an idea to Speak OUT! and bring together our community by launching ONE, Inc., one of the first LGBTQ+ organizations in the United States. Founder Jim Kepner faithfully collected any material related to LGBTQ+ topics, issues, and individuals that he could find, preserving our history for generations to come. The founders published ONE Magazine, the first widely distributed LGBTQ+ publication. They also started ONE Institute, the first educational institution in the United States dedicated to the study of homosexuality.
The organization, now known as ONE Archives Foundation, continues the tradition of firsts, from bringing the community together, to preserving our history, and to sharing our stories to promote equality—all thanks to your investment in our work.
We tell the histories of the LGBTQ+ community through our education programs for teachers and youth. This year we launched Youspeak Radio, an audio project where LGBTQ+ youth interviewed adult trailblazers. This year, we also organized Pride Publics: Words and Actions, a public art project that shows the many lineages of LGBTQ artists, writers, and activists.
Our 2022 programs highlight our history of Speaking OUT! including a podcast on BIPOC queer and trans periodicals; an online activist poster exhibition, and “I Am, Are You?” a community radio exhibition.
To maintain our programs and continue our operations, we need to raise $100,000 by December 31. Now, we invite YOU to Speak OUT! in support of preserving LGBTQ+ history, by clicking on the donate button above.
We are grateful for your generosity.
